Ten Most Common Beauty Mistakes
As none of us here are necessarily makeup gurus, it’s to be expected that we’re going to make a few mistakes along the way! Don’t fret; once you realize your mistakes you will be able to fix them no problem! Here are, what I believe to be, the ten most common beauty mistakes 🙂
Not Cleaning Your Makeup Brushes and Sponges
Your makeup tools become breeding grounds for bacteria extremely quickly! If you suffer from acne, the bacteria from your zits end up on your tools and can be quickly redistributed to other areas of your face if you don’t clean your brushes properly. It is important to wash your makeup sponges after each use, and to wash your brushes at least once a week. To clean your tools, I would recommend using warm water and baby shampoo!
Over-washing Your Face
Your body produces natural oils in order to maintain balance. When you wash your face with cleanser too often, these oils are stripped away and your body may over-compensate by overproducing more oils! Use a cleanser only once a day – preferably at night in order to ensure that all of your makeup is cleaned off. Opt for a facecloth and water in the morning!
Not Maintaining Your Eyebrows
People always seem to underestimate the power of good brows. You can read this post about eyebrows to figure out how to make your brows work for you!
So many people have a bad habit of not blending their foundation and bronzer down past their jaw line. The end result makes women look like they have a flesh-toned facemask on that does not look pretty! Blend, blend, blend, ladies! Save yourself from this mistake!
Not Removing Excess Lipstick After Applying It
Lipstick cakes up on the inside of your lips, which makes it easy for the pigment to be transferred onto your teeth! To avoid this embarrassing situation, fold a Kleenex in half and clamp your lips shut on it. You can read this post to learn how to perfect your lipstick!
Applying Conditioner As You Would Shampoo
Shampoo and conditioner serve different purposes, so it would be ridiculous to treat them the same! Conditioner doesn’t need to touch the fresh new growth of your hair at all– it is meant for the parts of your hair that need moisture. In other words, conditioner should only be used on the mid-shaft and lower on your hair, with the major focus being on the ends!
Not Wearing Sunscreen
Sunscreen is so important for people of all ages to wear. Sun damage can cause premature aging. Plus, it is important to always protect yourself from UV rays as they increase your risk of skin cancer. Never skip sunscreen! You can read my last post to find out the best time to apply sunscreen.
Not Exfoliating Your Lips
Dry and flaky lips only look worse when under lipstick. Do yourself a favor and use a toothbrush or lip scrub in order to buff away unsightly dead skin before applying your lip colour.
Overusing Acne Medication
Using too much acne medication too often will only dry out your skin, leaving you with not only a pimple, but also flaky skin to deal with! Only use them as directed, and apply them only to the affected area. Better yet, use a chemical-based product only once per day and use a natural treatment–like tea tree oil–at bedtime in place of a second application!
I will never understand how some girls think that clumpy eyelashes look good. I would much rather have ample volume, separation, and length than have 5 giant lashes on each eye. Throw out your mascara when it gets clumpy, use an eyelash brush to keep lashes separated, and limit yourself to a maximum of two coats of mascara.
